If you are living with the aches and pains associated with varicose veins, we have a solution. BASS Vein Center offers multiple solutions for varicose and spider veins that will safely and effectively remove these unsightly veins from your legs. Because varicose veins can range from mild to severe, we offer a range of treatment options that can help all types of vein issues. For larger and more severe varicose veins, our ambulatory phlebectomy procedure is often recommended.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy is the ideal solution for bulging varicose veins that are close to the skin’s surface. The vein is removed entirely from the body during the procedure, which means all aches and pains as well as other associated symptoms go away immediately following treatment.
While ambulatory phlebectomy is a surgical procedure, it is also minimally invasive. It requires small incisions to be made and a local anesthetic is used. The treatment is performed in-office and there is no need for general anesthesia or an overnight stay at the hospital afterward.
Before treating varicose veins using ambulatory phlebectomy, our doctor will give you a thorough examination and provide you with a diagnosis. An ultrasound is performed to further evaluate the veins in the leg. After all possible sources of vein disease are determined, a diagnosis and treatment plan are formed. Our doctors will discuss all treatment options available to you and help you decide which one is the right choice.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy treatment often takes around an hour to complete. You will be provided medication to help you relax prior to the procedure. While you are still standing, the bulging veins in your leg will be marked using a pen so that the problem areas are clearly visible while you are lying down. The leg will be prepped to avoid any infections after the treatment. Then one of our healthcare providers will anesthetize the area around the vein. Once that area is numb, tiny incisions are made next to the vein. Using these incisions, the varicose vein will be removed. Afterward, the incisions are closed, and a compression stocking or bandage is applied to the leg.
Following the procedure, it is recommended that you resume your normal daily activities. Here are a few more precautions to take that will help ensure your recovery is a success.
For most patients, recovery is easy following the procedure and most will fully recover within two weeks. It is common to experience some bruising in the area of treatment. It is also normal for small bumps to develop underneath the skin where the vein was removed. This is caused by trapped blood and the issue should resolve within a few weeks following the treatment.
