Dr. Ileana Helms is a nephrologist with Bass Medical Group. She was an Assistant Professor at the National University of Mexico for six years teaching anatomy, biochemistry, and modular medicine. She went on to receive her MD degree at the National University School of Medicine. She moved to San Francisco in 1985 and completed her internal medicine residency at Highland Hospital and subsequently, a fellowship in Infectious Disease at the University of California San Francisco. Ultimately, however, she decided to dedicate herself to a career to Nephrology. She completed her Nephrology fellowship at the University of California San Francisco in 1993 and has been practicing Nephrology in Contra Costa County ever since. She also implemented the continuous veno venous hemodialysis program to John Muir, a lifesaving procedure for patients in the intensive care unit which is not available at all hospitals. Dr. Helms speaks English and Spanish.
