Varicose Veins Treatment: FAQs About VenaSeal
October 19, 2023

It can be difficult to deal with varicose veins every day. People dealing with them are often bothered by their cosmetic appearance, but these veins can also be painful. On the bright side, there are quite a few treatments that can help to eliminate these veins. Some types of treatment involve surgical procedures, while others are considered to be conservative treatments. One such form of conservative treatment that is quite successful is VenaSeal. Check out the series of frequently asked questions about VenaSeal below to learn more about it.

What Is VenaSeal?

The VenaSeal closure system is a form of varicose vein treatment that is used to seal up the problematic varicose veins. It involves the use of medical-grade glue to close off the vein. Once the vein is glued shut, it will harden and be reabsorbed into the body over time.

What Will Happen During the Procedure?

Before the procedure, your doctor will take an ultrasound of the affected leg. This will be used to examine the particular vein in question and plan for the procedure. The leg to be treated will be numbed so that the procedure will be minimally painful. In fact, the only real pain you will likely feel is when the needle is put in. After the leg is numb, your doctor will make a puncture hole and then insert a catheter into the vein. Using ultrasound, the catheter will be guided into an ideal position. When the catheter is in place, it will be slowly drawn backward while releasing the medical glue. Once the catheter is fully removed, the puncture site will be bandaged and you can take a little bit to rest.

How Does VenaSeal Differ From Ablation Treatments?

As mentioned above, VenaSeal uses medical-grade adhesive whereas ablation treatments use heat to close varicose veins. While both of these can be efficient treatments for varicose veins, there can be further side effects from ablation techniques. Since these treatments use heat, there is a small potential for burns or bruising.

How Long Does it Take to Recover From VenaSeal Treatment?

One of the best things about VenaSeal is that there is virtually no downtime for recovery. Of course, this can vary depending on the severity of your case, but many people return to their usual activity right after the treatment is done. Furthermore, VenaSeal does not require you to wear compression stockings for a certain amount of time after the procedure like several other forms of treatment do.

Am I a Good Candidate for VenaSeal Treatment?

If you are dealing with painful varicose veins, then you may be a good candidate for VenaSeal treatment. This procedure tends to work best on larger veins and those deeper in the leg. This treatment is not ideal for everyone and there are several factors to consider, so be sure to consult with your doctor about your treatment options. Your doctor will be able to review your case and recommend the ideal option for you or refer you to a vein specialist
